A post graduate passion project.

I wasn’t going to let my lack of height or basketball skill stop me from making the NBA. After graduating college, I began preparing for the draft. It started with a hype trailer that played off narratives surrounding the NBA at the time, specifically the polarizing presence of the Ball Family. The video enraged some fans and excited many others on the facebook groups and reddit threads it was shared on. I then made an official delusionallakersfan page and began creating content similar to that of other sport journalism pages and posted live game reaction to practice keeping up with a professional social media team’s pace.

Nike Kobe 9

a slogan contest submission

The usually reclusive Kobe Bryant had extra time on his hands as he recovered from an injury in 2013. Some of this time was spent interacting with fans on his new Twitter account. In anticipation for his new boxing boot inspired basketball shoe, he invited fans to come up with their own slogans for a chance to win a pair.

The ninth installment in Kobe Bryant’s signature sneaker line represented his journey back from one of the biggest setbacks in his career. For my entry, I also took inspiration from boxing and injected the fighting spirit into the Mamba Mentality. Like a fighter, we fight back. When life bites….

BITE BACK

LA KITS

a sportswear brand concept

I spent a lot of my pandemic biking the LA and San Gabriel riverbeds down to the beach on my dingy old fixed gear and jorts. I slowly began to understand why legitimate cyclists with more than one gear would be in skin tight patterned lycra. Inspired by the Lakers and Dodgers Championship seasons, I created cycling jerseys inspired by LA sports legends that I would enjoy wearing.

r.v.y

I spent part of my first stimulus check on a new bass guitar. I began learning when I was 12 but never got past certain things in learning music. I’d pick it up here and there but just playing along to tabs really. When school was too stressful; I’d pick up my bass, try to improve, get discouraged, and would then end up feeling more inclined to try harder in school. But during the pandemic, when I wasn’t paralyzed figuring out what career to pursue and dejected from failed applications, I was practicing bass.

Things led to another and I became pretty okay at guitar, piano, drums, and singing(kinda). It became my realm of comfort being a vessel for my favorite songs. Suddenly being able to do something I’ve always yearned to do but never thought I could felt like being granted superpowers .… maybe it was superpowers. I did catch covid and lost my taste and smell during the peak of my musical learning so maybe I had heightened hearing. Anyways here are my original little tunes. Still working on stuff. Not too shabby but still pretty shabby.
